THE HOME EDIT · ONE THING TODAY
What should I do at home today?
One small job, five minutes or less. Tap through the deck until you find the one you’ll actually do, then check it off. Tomorrow there’s a fresh one.
Swipe left for another. Tap the box when it’s done.
THAT’S IT FOR TODAY
Done. Your house is a little better than it was this morning.
Tomorrow’s thing will be waiting here. If you’re on a roll, there’s a button below for one more.
DONE SO FAR
0 things done
Nothing yet. Today’s is a good place to start.
SAVED FOR THE WEEKEND
When you have more than five minutes
Save a thing you like the sound of but can’t do today, and it lands here.
HOW IT WORKS
- Pick your rooms. Or don’t, and we’ll draw from the whole house. Pick “Listing in 30 days” on its own and the deck becomes a countdown, in the order an agent would do it.
- One thing a day. Five minutes or less, in plain words, with the reason it matters. Some things know the season: coats in November, screens in April, the air filter every quarter.
- Tick it or swap it. Done means done. Not today means you get another. No streaks, no guilt.
- It remembers on this device. Nothing to sign up for. Your done list and your saved list live in this browser.
WHERE THE THINGS COME FROM
Every one of them comes from an article on this site, written from Diane Goldenberg’s forty years of walking into other people’s homes. Each card links to the piece it came from, so if the thing makes you curious, the whole story is one tap away.
WHY ONE THING
Because that’s how Diane looks at a room.
“When I go into somebody’s home, I sit there and think of ways to change it. If I go into a hotel room, I like to change it. It’s something in my mind that I can’t stop.”
“Everything has got to be in place.”
“Walk every room before listing. Write down everything.”
“You have to be happy in your space.”
Forty years of first impressions taught her that a home rarely needs a makeover. It needs the one thing that’s off, fixed. Then the next one. This is that, one day at a time.
QUESTIONS
Is it the same thing for everyone?
On a given day, people with the same rooms picked will often get the same thing, which is part of the fun. Your done list changes what comes next, so two houses drift apart within a week.
What if I miss a day?
Nothing happens. There’s no streak to break. Come back when you come back and there’s a thing waiting.
Where is my done list stored?
In your browser on this device, and nowhere else. Clear your browser data and it starts fresh. Use a different phone and it won’t know you.
Can I get the whole list?
No, and that’s the point. A list of fifty is a to-do list you’ll ignore. One thing is something you’ll do. The articles linked above have the long versions if you want them.
